The Secret Dunlop Recipe

Purofort is a unique material. It has a secret recipe, only known to Dunlop. For each type of Purofort boot, a specific recipe is created in the Dunlop lab. The ingredients depend on the application and the required properties of the boot.

Purofort contains millions of air pockets. Because they are mixed under high pressure, they are evenly distributed. This is quite unique, as Dunlop is the only boots manufacturer in the world that uses high pressure technology to produce its boots. And it's very beneficial for you: thanks to the evenly distributed air pockets, Purofort provides extreme thermal insulation, keeping your feet warm in the coldest conditions. And because air and solid material are optimally mixed, Purofort is lightweight and comfortable.

Purofort is extremely flexible and cut resistant, due to its molecular structure. This structure contains hard and soft blocks. The hard blocks make your boot resistant to cuts and abrasion, giving them a longer lifespan. The soft blocks allow for a thinner shaft which increases flexibility and comfort.

There are custom Purofort® solutions for Agriculture and Fishery, Construction and Industry, Food Processing, Oil, Gas and Mining, and Functional Leisure, each equipped with its own unique product features.

Your boots should give you ultimate protection. This is impacted a lot by the performance of your outsoles. As slipping and tripping occurs mostly during walking when landing on your heel and taking off from your toes, Dunlop pay special attention to these areas.

That's why they design outsoles that exceed your requirements on slip resistance and grip. Dunlop outsoles are additionally dirt repellent and wear resistant, assuring a long life time of your boots.

• SB = For safety footwear, this is the most basic level. These will have toe protection against a strong impact (200 joules).
• S1 = Same as SB, plus anti-static protection, energy absorption in the heel, and is resistant to fuel oil.
• S2 = Same as S1, plus resistant to water penetration or absorption through the shoe upper.
• S3 = Same as S2, plus midsole penetration resistance.
• S4 = Same as S1, but is made from waterproof materials and is fully waterproof.
• S5 = Same features as S4, plus midsole penetration resistance.
• S6 = Same as S2, plus fully waterproof, but not necessarily fuel oil resistant.
• S7 = Same as S3, plus fully waterproof, but not necessarily fuel oil resistant.

The SB-S5 levels above meet the EN ISO 20345:2011 standard, and S6 and S7 meet the EN ISO 20345:2022 standard.

If the above code portion ends with:

• L = non-metal midsole penetration resistance (tested with 4.5mm(dia.) nail)
• S = non-metal midsole penetration resistance (tested with a 3.0mm(dia.) nail)
